Winner of the Brian Stacey Memorial Award 2002 (for emerging Australian Conductors) as part of the Helpmann Awards.
Kellie graduated in 1995 from Sydney University with a B.Mus. (Hons) and received the Donald Peart Memorial Award for music. She has continued her studies as repetiteur with Victor Morris and a Graduate Diploma in Conducting at the Sydney Conservatorium.
In 1995 she was musical director for The Funky Divas, toured her own big band Simply Swing, and played keyboard/piano for The Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon and Beauty and the Beast for which she was also Assistant Conductor. Kellie played for the Star City opening celebrations with the Michael Crawford tour, worked as conductor’s assistant on the Natalie Cole Stardust tour, and as Associate Musical Director with the Australian tour of Showboat.
After returning to Sydney she was repetiteur for Iphis with Music Theatre Sydney, Nostradamus in workshop and musical director for productions of Sunday in the Park with George, The Baker’s Wife (NIDA) and Oh, Coward at the Marion Street Theatre.
In 1999 Kellie played with Opera Australia for Turandot, and joined David King as pianist for Jennifer McGregor, Judi Connelli and Suzanne Johnston as The Three Divas at both Opera in the Vineyards and their Australian tour. At this time she joined The Australian Three Tenors as musical director, including a contract on a Royal Caribbean liner.
Most recently Kellie has been musical director for Corporate events with Rob Guest, Associate Musical Director for the Australian Tour of The Sound of Music, and Assistant Conductor with the Carl Rosa Opera Company in Mikado. She has just finished as Associate Musical Director for The Wizard of Oz, and is part of the Symphony Australia Young Conductors Programme with Adelaide, Opera Australia and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras. In March 2002 Kellie conducted the premiere of a new Australian composition on the life of Eugene Goossens with the Song Company, and toured New Zealand as Musical Director for Rob Guest in Concert.
Kellie has just commenced work with the Melbourne production of The Witches of Eastwick and will be Musical Director for The Brian Stacey Memorial Melodies at the Melbourne Concert Hall on Monday 26 August.
July 2004: Kellie Dickerson is currently Associate Musical Director for ‘The Producers’, the new Mel Brookes Musical at the Princess Theatre in Melbourne.
